  2024-02-27

The initial demonstration of the potential of MALDI-TOF MS for testing antifungal susceptibility of pathogenic fungi came from a proof-of-concept study by Marinach et al. [31] who monitored the changes of the proteome of C. albicans 7915 synthesis exposed to different concentrations of fluconazole.

  2024-02-27

The efficacy of dmh express in improving smell function has been previously found to be negative, both when used for bacterial and viral infections. Van Zele et al, in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter study, found no influence of doxycycline treatment on self-reported olfactory loss i

  2024-02-27

An in vitro assay in which endothelial cells form 3D tube-like structures was used to investigate effects of dNK on vessel stability. The results indicate that dNK cells from women with high spiral artery resistance index had reduced ability to activate endothelial cells, since endothelial cells pre

  2024-02-26

The AHR functions in the immune system – a tsunami of exciting findings The research of recent years has convincingly established an important function of the AHR in linking chemical environmental cues to immune responses [21,22], and reviewed in [1,23]. As a side effect, a view of the AHR as “Th

  2024-02-26

In a recent series of studies from our laboratory, to characterize the contractile systems within the rat prexasertib wall, three conditions were identified that led to detrusor activity: spontaneous micro-contractions, electrical field stimulated (EFS) contractions and muscarinic agonist induced c

  2024-02-26

6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) is a selective catecholaminergic neurotoxin mainly used to generate lesions in the nigrostriatal pathway in rats (Ungerstedt, 1968). The most common use of 6-OHDA is via unilateral injection into the rat medial forebrain bundle (MFB). DA depletion, nigral DA cell loss, and

  2024-02-26

To investigate further the clinical and mutational spectrum associated with -related dyskinesia, we here performed a screen in a large series of patients affected with an unexplained hyperkinetic movement disorder, resulting in the identification of 2 pediatric patients presenting with a novel pheno

  2024-02-26

To assess relative metabolic activity and proliferation of hexokinase regulation attached to various substrates we used the MTT assay [29], [30]. In order to compare the metabolic activity of cells under the various conditions irrespective of the number or viability of the cells, we performed a Pic

Functional consequences of ADK regulation on neuronal excitability Adenosine modulates neuronal excitability via activation of the high affinity A1 or A2A, low-affinity A2B, or low abundance A3 adenosine receptors that feed into a multitude of different neuronal and astrocytic pathways (Blum et a

  2024-02-26

Our results suggest that plasma membrane and a3-containing V-ATPases represent an important and novel target in the development of drugs to limit breast cancer metastasis. That knock-down of a3 has been shown to reduce metastasis of melanoma cells in an in vivo mouse model suggests that this role ma

  2024-02-26

An alternative, more rarely used, electron microscopy-based approach exploits labeling of phagosomes with DAMP (3-(2,4-dinitroanilino)-30-amino-N-methyldipropylamine). DAMP is a weakly basic compound which is membrane-impermeable once it has been protonated. This way, DAMPH+ accumulates in acidic in

  2024-02-26

In the current study, we showed that known inhibitors of the F-ATPase and ionophores affect the growth of P. gingivalis and its plasma membrane ATPase, suggesting that the membrane ATPase can be a target for anti-periodontitis agents. We also identified stilbenoids that strongly inhibit the growth o

  2024-02-26

Introduction Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) is a neurohormone which is mainly secreted from the pineal gland. Melatonin is a highly conserved molecule present not only in vertebrates but also in nonvertebrates such as bacteria, protists, fungi, macroalgae, and plants (Cecon et al., 2017
